Steelmaker POSCO's outside director nominee Park Kyung-suh has stepped down following #MeToo allegations against him.

Park, who is also a business professor at Korea University, is said to have been disciplined for sexual misconduct in 2014.

"Professor Park gave up his nomination for personal reasons," the steelmaker said in a regulatory filing on Monday.

Park faced a flurry of #MeToo allegations shortly after his nomination was announced on Feb. 13. A NGO in Pohang, an industrial city where POSCO's main steel mill is located, denounced his nomination on Monday, claiming Park had his professorship suspended and salary reduced for three months from September 2014.

Korea University refused to confirm the claim.
